Painting live is one of my greatest passions. I’ve been fortunate to paint at incredible events — from Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium and the Men’s College World Series Finals to traveling to Florida three times to paint live. Bringing a painting to life from start to finish, right in front of an audience, is an experience that never loses its magic. I truly believe it helps people connect with and appreciate art on a deeper level.

Live Painting at Nebraska's Memorial Stadium

On 9-20-24 I was honored to paint live at the 400th Sellout of Memorial Stadium, starting at 7pm and finishing when the game was over. To date, this was the most challenging live painting I’ve done with the lighting changing from daylight to night. I also decided to 'go big or go home' and picked a 3'x5' canvas. I then took it back to my studio to finish up.

With all that said, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. My parents joined me and even Johnny Rodgers came up and hung out! It has been a goal of mine to paint live at Memorial Stadium since I became a licensed Husker artist. Feels like a full circle moment.

Live Painting for Farm Credit Services of America's Executive Summit

This was the largest live painting I have done to date - a triptych spanning 6’ x 12’ wide. I began sketching the painting out in my studio, then painted for about 3-4 hrs at the event in front of the crowd. My Dad then hand crafted walnut islands to go on top before it was hung at its permanent place at Farm Credit’s new facility. With the help of Tyler Curnes, we were able to attach plywood to the back, drilling in the walnut so that they would not sag on the painting. Definitely a collaboration!

Live Painting at Men's College World Series

Honoring the Past, Celebrating the Present

This painting commemorates the 75 years the College World Series has been in Omaha. It begins with Rosenblatt Stadium — its iconic lights and colorful red, yellow, and blue seats — and transitions into the new stadium, framed by the Omaha skyline and the Kids Fest Ferris wheel. I was lucky enough to finish it Live at the 1st Final Series game.

Live Painting for Cox Communications Holiday Party at Joslyn Art Museum

For this live painting experience, I was asked to complete two paintings over a 4 hour span for Cox Communication's Holiday Party at Joslyn Art Museum. It was a lot of fun to capture the energy and movement of that night.

Live Painting for Lied Center of Performing Arts Masquerade Ball

I spent 3 1/2 hours painting the 'Lady in Red' for the Lied Center's Biennial Gala, Carnivale de Lied, a Masquerade Ball, a fundraiser for the Friends of Lied. I started at 5pm and finished at 8:30pm. Below are some of the process photos. My Mom and Dad were able to help out talking with everyone while I painted. And thanks to the board members who invited me to paint at their event!

Live Painting at Heartfelt Hearts and Souls Gala, Benefiting the Children's Memorial in Seward

What an honor to paint at this event for families who have lost children. To say I’ve never painted a more meaningful painting is an understatement. Jill and Gerald Foltz were at the event and a part of the idea, asking that Brook was in the painting with Sam. Jan Berringer also gave her blessing to use Brook in the painting with Sam.

Live Painting for Wedding at the Scoular Ballroom

This was my first live wedding painting and I loved it! What a beautiful environment to paint a wedding live. One of the more relaxed live paintings I’ve ever done. I enjoyed the music and talking with people as they came up and watched me paint. I'd love to do more of these!

Live Painting for the Team Jack Gala

I recently had the honor of painting Live at the Team Jack Gala honoring the late Jack Hoffman, starting at 5pm and finishing at 8:30pm. It was very special when the winning bidders on the painting were Rex and Danielle Burkhead. It means a lot that the original painting will be cherished by them. Funds went to pediatric brain cancer research.

Live Painting for Teammates Mentoring Gala

What a fun Gala, Tom Osborne interviewing Paton Manning and Warren Buffet. They were celebrating the 97' Championship team, so chose to do a painting capturing that moment. Many of the players were there and signed the final picture, including Tom Osborne. A very memorable experience.

Live Painting for Rotary District 6960 in Florida

For this painting, I was flown down to Southwest Florida to paint Live at Rotary District 6960 Conference. The painting took about 3-4 hours to complete. Proceeds benefited JCMF with Josh the Otter, which is a foundation I am a part of and illustrated the children's book, "Josh the Baby Otter" for. A really fun event to be a part of.

Live Painting for Cattlemen's Ball of NE 2019

This Cattlemen's Ball was a very emotional one. Coming off 2018 with all the devastating flooding that happened in Nebraska with ranches, farms and homes destroyed, the only thing that made sense to paint was the lines of trucks from other states bringing hay and other supplies to help those in need. Watching this on the news, made me tear up and I knew it needed to be captured. Numerous people watching me paint that day were affected by the flooding, and it was very emotional. I was honored to paint this image, showing such solidarity and support from so many others. The painting was auctioned for cancer research in front of around 4,500 people.

Live Painting in Hastings, NE to benefit education scholarships and childhood cancer research.

Painted in a beautiful old building downtown Hastings, The Lark, this was a fun night full of jazz music, art and food. I didn't think I'd have enough time to finish, but I did! Really enjoyed painting this one and amazed with how it all came together.

Live Painting for Cattlemen's Ball of NE 2021

Referencing a beautiful photo from a gentleman off Nebraska Through the Lens, I added in the little boy to make it a special Father/Son painting. To me, this represents the peacefulness out in the country with your animals and ones you love. I started around 9am, finishing around 5pm. It was then it was auctioned off on stage for Cancer Research in front of 4,500 people.

Live Painting in Englewood, Florida for Josh the Otter

This was the first of three Live Paintings in Florida I did for the Rotary Club of Englewood on behalf of Josh the Otter. I had about 3 hours to complete this painting. It was a fun environment with great people surrounding me.

Live Painting for The Jet Award Gala

Painting Live for The Jet Award at Baxter Arena was so fun! Thanks to Johnny Rodgers for recommending me for it. There were about 800 people in attendance. The board asked me to paint the 'I-Back High' from Omaha Central. They were all exceptional running backs that came from there. My Dad was in heaven hanging with Nebraska greats like Rich Glover. A neat experience.

Live Painting for Cattlemen's Ball of Nebraska 2016

This was the very first Cattlemen's Ball I ever painted Live at and really kicked off Live Painting for me. I started around 9am and finished around 5pm, with the original being auctioned off for cancer Research in front of 5,000 people. My first cattle painting as well. Since then, I've done numerous cattle pictures and it's been a lot of fun capturing their expressions and personalities.

Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy

HETRA is an organization I have been volunteering at for over a year now. They work with special needs and veterans. This is the painting I did Live for their fundraiser event. I had about 3-4 hours to complete it. I had a lot of fun painting this guys sweet personality.

Live Painting for St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Elkhorn

This event took place at the Omaha Design Center. I started painting in the cocktail room, then was moved to finish near the stage while the program was going on. The sunset was fun to paint and seemed to flow pretty effortlessly.

Live Painting for Josh the Otter

This was the very first Live Painting I've ever done. I painted it for an organization I’ve been a part of since 2008, Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation, who I illustrated the children's water safety book, Josh the Baby Otter" for. We were honored to have Michael Phelp's mom, Debbie Phelps, as the guest speaker that year. Crazy to think how many I’ve done since then and how many more I will do!

Live Painting for Rotary Club of Englewood Florida

Another wonderful event down in Florida I was honored to be a part of. Started painting during cocktail hour and finished near the stage while the event was going on. I had about 3-4 hours. Auctioned off to promote water safety for children through Josh the Otter. How fun they keep having me back down to paint for them!

Live Painting for Cattlemen's Ball of Nebraska 2017

This idea was chosen to honor the 1947 Omaha Stockyards. As I painted this throughout the day, it was fun for people to come up and tell stories about being there with their grandparents. It brought back a lot of neat memories for people, which is my favorite part of art. I started around 9am, finishing around 5pm. The original was auctioned off on stage in front of about 4,000 people for cancer research.

This Cattlemen's Ball was hosted in Hebron, NE. Their theme of the event was 'Cattle Drive', so of course had to paint a cattle drive! In photoshop, I came up with this composition from multiple photos. I had from 9am-5pm and it was auctioned off for cancer research.

Live Painting for West Omaha Chamber

This painting was done for the West Omaha Chamber. Starting with a blank canvas, I had just under 4 hours to finish this Omaha cityscape. The buildings were a bit of a challenge, but ended up coming together in the end. It was a really nice event with fun people.

Live Painting for Farm Credit Services of America's Board of Directors Holiday Party at Joslyn Art Museum

This was a fun painting for the Board of Directors Christmas party at Joslyn Art Museum. I had about 3 hours to complete the painting, bringing the painting back to my studio to finish up. The final piece hangs at their facility in Omaha.

Live Painting for Nebraska Bar Association's Barrister's Ball

This Live Painting was done for the Nebraska Bar Association. Scott Frost had just been hired at the time, so the committee opted to have me do a painting of Tom and Scott. It was a really nice evening.

Live Painting for Nebraska Greats Foundation

What a great evening. For this live painting, I started it before the event and filmed the process. They ran the video footage throughout the evening as I finished painting it there. It was auctioned off with Tom Rathman on facetime witnessing it. How cool is that! The proceeds went to assisting current and former college athletes with medical and financial issues.

Live Painting at Teammates Mentoring

This Live Painting is a little extra special, as it was the reason I decided to become a licensed Husker artist. Tom Osborne was in attendance and actually watched me paint. When I shook his hand and told him I was a mentor, his eyes lit up and he took both of my hands in his and thanked me for doing that. It was a moment I will never forget.

After the event, my parents and I along with Drue and Nicole Berringer were able to surprise Brook's mom, Jan, with the very first print. A very special day.

Live Painting for Gallery 92 West Gala in Fremont, Nebraska

This live painting had a lot of energy to it. It was fun making it abstract and free. I finished in 1hr 30min, which I think is a record for me with live painting! I hope you enjoy the photos and process video below.
